Edwin A. Gee did his undergraduate work at George Washington University and received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland in 1948. During World War II, he was an assistant chemist at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Charles Brelsford McCoy was born in 1909. He received an M.S. in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1932. Charles McCoy's father, John W.
